GAZ-SYSTEM with a permit to build third storage tank at the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście

On 11 February 2021 the Western Pomeranian Province Governor issued a decision to Polskie LNG - GAZ-SYSTEM Capital Group granting a permit to build a liquefied natural gas tank featuring a capacity of 180 thousand cubic metres.  The new tank, together with the auxiliary infrastructure, is a key element of Stage II of the President Lech Kaczynski LNG Terminal Expansion Program.  When built, it will increase the commercial capacity of the terminal and improve the flexibility of the entire facility.

- The permit we have received means that we can begin construction of the new tank immediately. Stage II of the terminal expansion is a 'design and build' investment project, so prior to obtaining administrative approvals, the contractor completed the design work, selected subcontractors and got ready to launch construction works - said Tomasz Stępień, President of the Management Board of GAZ-SYSTEM S.A.

- The PiS government has been consistent in building Poland's energy sovereignty - the decision on the expansion of the LNG terminal is another step on the path laid down by the late President of Poland Lech Kaczyński. Without his far-sighted vision we would not have had this investment today - said the West Pomeranian Province Governor Zbigniew Bogucki - The LNG Terminal Expansion Program is primarily about enhancing Poland's energy security and increasing diversification of natural gas supply sources to our country. Through the expansion of the terminal Poland may become a leader of the LNG market in the Baltic Sea basin. This investment will also bring about benefits for individual gas consumers, such as continuity of supply and favourable gas prices.

The LNG Terminal in Świnoujście Expansion program

The terminal expansion program is split into two stages:

• Stage 1 - installation of two additional SCVs;
• Stage 2 - construction of a third liquefied gas tank and a new jetty.

Stage I of the expansion is currently in progress. Key equipment for the expansion is being delivered to the terminal and installation work is underway to be completed in December 2021.

Stage II the terminal expansion program, apart from the construction of a third tank, also includes a new jetty. This stage is scheduled for completion in December 2023.

The third tank and the new jetty for loading, unloading and reloading LNG as well as for bunkering ships will increase the flexibility of the facility in Świnoujście and enable the launch of new services that are being increasingly sought on the dynamically growing LNG market.

The LNG Terminal Expansion Project was included in the list of projects of common interest to the European Union (PCI list, Projects of Common Interest). The expansion of the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście is included in financing under the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment 2014-2020, PRIORITY: VII, MEASURE: 7.1 under the project: “Expansion of the functionalities of the LNG terminal in Świnoujście”.
